TOUR DESCRIPTION
Puerto Madryn is one of the most attractive towns on the seaside in Patagonia. The little centre is on the coast of “Golfo Nuevo”. At the “Costanera” and at the main square, many restaurants, outdoor cafes, and promenades create a Mediterranean holiday atmosphere. The people of Puerto Madryn live mainly on tourism and fishing. It is the starting point in order to visit many interesting sites that are unique in the world, some of them declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO: First of all the Valdes Peninsula where you can join the boat excursions that enable whale watching. It is a privileged bird and sea fauna reservation.
Day 1 – Trelew – Puerto Madryn
A guide will pick you up at the airport to take you straight to Punta Tombo. It is a fauna reserve for Magellan penguins and lies 120km south of Trelew. It has the largest continental penguin colony apart from the Antarctic. The colony can reach up to 2 million animals. The visitors can approach very near to these curious animals by following clearly marked paths. The observation is fun with penguins coming right up to the people. After this fascinating experience you will be driven to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2 – Peninsula Valdes (B)
This full day tour shows you the remarkable animal reserve of Peninsula Valdés. The peninsula covers an area of 3,625km² and is connected to the Chubut province by a narrow isthmus. Due to its geographical position, it has its own macroclimate and thus a fascinating variety of animals to watch. Every year the Southern Right whales appear from June to mid-December to give birth. During this time there are optional boat tours to observe them close-up. But also during the other seasons you may watch a lot of animals. Optional boat tours to the sea lion colony are offered from mid-December to June. At Punta Delgada you find one of the few places where the huge sea elephants give birth on the land. The animals, lying around on the beach, are easy to observe. The visitors are allowed to go quite near. On the way back you may discover more animals such as owls, guanacos, ñandúes (South American ostrich), maras (Patagonian rabbits), and if you are lucky you will even be able to see grey foxes. stay overnight at the hotel.
