TOUR DESCRIPTION
Torres del Paine is one of the natural highlights of Chile and one of the most visited parks in South America. The Paine massif is a sight to behold, as it rises up from the pampas and reflects off the Lago Nordenskjold. It is also an excellent place for wildlife spotting. The park has over 100 different species of birds. Some species that you may see on the trail are the Andean Condor, Black-Chested Buzzard Eagle, Black-necked Swan, Spectacled Duck, Magellanic Woodpecker, Ringed Kingfisher, and the Chilean Flamingo. The landscape is rough but picturesque, see for yourself!
Day 1 – Punta Arenas
Reception at Punta Arenas airport and connection to the city. Tour to the penguin colonies of the Otway fjord or city tour in Punta Arenas. Connection by local transport bus to Puerto Natales (three hours). Lodging at selected hotel.
Day 2 – Torres del Paine Ntl. Park (B, L)
Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Torres del Paine, visiting the Cave of the Milodon, where well preserved remains of this prehistoric herbivore that lived there about 12,000 years ago have been found. From there, the journey will continue into the Torres del Paine National Park itself, where we will visit Laguna Amarga, Lago Nordenskjold, Lago Pehoe with its waterfall Salto Grande, and will be able to appreciate the peaks of Torres del Paine. Take-away lunch included. Lodging in Torres del Paine.
Day 3 – Torres del Paine – Puerto Natales (B)
Day at your leisure in the National Park. There is no fixed program on the third day. You could go for a trek in the National Park. Lodging in Puerto Natales.
Day 4 – Balmacedo, Serrano glaciers (B, L)
Breakfast at the hotel. Cruise to Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. You may meet cormorants and sea lions on the way. Lunch included at a Magellan farm. Return to Puerto Natales and lodging.
Day 5 – Punta Arenas – Santiago (B)
Breakfast at hotel. Transfer by local bus to the airport. End of our services.
Optional full day trip (extended tour) – Perito Moreno Glacier – Transfer to El Calafate in Argentina (320 km) and excursion to Perito Moreno glacier with box-lunch and entrance fees to National Park included. Contact us for more details.
